Hi Susan and Anjie,

My name is Tammy, I have had two c-sections, one due to fetal distress and the other one a repeat c-section due to size of previous baby (9lbs 13 oz). I live in Bunbury and I am planning to have a third child this yr. I have been to my doctor and spoken to him in regard to VBA+2C's, he says that no OB will touch me in Bunbury and that I would need to go up to King Edward if I wish to go that way. But from all the research I have read there is nothing that suggests that any woman wanting to have a VBA+2C is at any more risk of having a uterine rupture than someone who has had one c-section. So I was a bit confused. All I have ever wanted was to be able to have a vaginal birth. The thing going against me is the travel up there while pregnant or in labour, I thought another option may be to have a home birth.

At this stage all I really need to know is would you two consider doing a home birth for someone that has had 2 c-sections or is my only real option to go up to King Edward? Also looking at the cost factor too, how much does it cost to have a home birth, is it covered by medicare or private health insurance?? Would love to hear from you, thanks for your time,

kindest regards,

Tammy

My name is Karina Buikema. I'm 37 years old and 26 weeks pregnant right now. I am in Japan currently. I have met a dolphin therapist from Bunbury here who is encouraging me to find more options in giving birth and offering me to come to Bunbury to seek that. My family (we are Canadians) have been traveling, and found out we are expecting while here in Japan. I have two boys; my first one with a c-section (in '99), and the second in a successful VBAC home birth (in 2003).

Japan apparently had a very sad court case happen last year and because of that everywhere I go they want to give me a planned c-section for my third. Doctors and midwives alike are scared to even offer VBAC now because of this sad outcome. (The court did not honor the consent form the woman signed and sided with the unfortunate woman who had a uterine rapture. The mother and babe were saved, but the child was born with a brain damage, and she died later before her 5th birthday. The parents sued the hospital after the loss of their child, and won the case.) It is all very sad.

I am aware that my baby is growing quite normally without any glitch. In fact, probably this is the smallest baby I have grown in me so far. (Both of my previous ones were 9 lbs.ers) I had a bikini cut incision for my c-section. I had no complications whatsoever after my c-section or VBAC. There is only one baby in there. I have normal blood pressure and normal blood sugar count. I am also aware that the successive VBACs actually increase their success rate instead of becoming more risky. Knowing all this, I really would like to avoid another c-section.

Because this is likely our very last baby, I'd like to try and have a birth I always wanted: a water birth. If after all my efforts I cannot, that is fine. But I do have to give it a try or I'll regret it forever.

Could you give me an idea of how things are there in Bunbury? Is VBAC an equally scary suggestion in Bunbury? Would it be difficult to find a midwife at this late date? (i.e. are you available?)

Thanks you in advance for taking the time in your very busy schedule.

very inspiring! beautiful website.

I am a graduate midwife, the idea was to become a homebirth midwife, now I'm not sure what i'm going to do. I am doing a masters by thesis next year, my research proposal is "womens experience and resons for choosing homebirth with a private midwife"

I was hoping to try and find some women who might be willing to take part it would probably involve an initial questionare and then an interview.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance and good luck up the wonderful work you are doing

Thanks Jo for your support, please can you write to the Primeminister and tell him about your reasons for a HBAC we need to bombard the politicians and be a voice to be heard. I expect you might have done this already but if not please do.

Thanks Anjie

Great site, really informative. As a HBAC mummy I love to tell people all about the liberation of homebirth. Sending vibes against the proposed legislation....
